Director of Operations – David Werdelin
David Werdelin is retired from the U.S. Navy and a skilled engineer whose career has been shaped by global experience, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to service.
His Story
Born in Pennsylvania and raised partly on the island of St. Croix, he developed an early appreciation for nature and the built environment. During his military service, David traveled extensively around the world, contributing to multiple disaster-relief and rebuilding operations.
These experiences strengthened his engineering mindset, sharpened his problem-solving abilities, and deepened his understanding of how resilient infrastructure supports strong communities. After completing his service, David pursued formal engineering studies, excelling in analytical design, structural planning, and systems-based solutions. His discipline, hands-on skill, and global perspective allow him to approach projects with precision, efficiency, and creativity.
David also gained valuable experience in health, wellness, and leadership through work as a trainer and self-defense instructor.
Though he no longer operates the Oasis at Stonecrest as it seeks a new home, the retreat’s development showcased his ability to design, build, and manage eco-focused spaces from the ground up.
His knowledge of sustainable structures, land use, and restorative environments will be a significant asset in creating our own retreat and wellness center.
David’s blend of military discipline, engineering expertise, and commitment to community resilience makes him an essential contributor to projects that promote healing, stability, and long-term impact.
